The Maserati Barchetta is a true-race car with an extensive attention to performance details. This however was also the reason, why Maserati only built 17 cars instead of the 25 cars originally planned. Since the car was purposely built for the „Grantrofeo Monomarca Barchetta Maserati“ race series, Maserati intended to sell a large share to gentlemen drivers. Due to the high costs of the project and Maserati’s support of the Ferrari factory, less cars than originally planned were built and also the „Stradale“ version was terminated after reaching the prototype phase. The Barchetta however proofed to be very quick and reliable and almost all cars attended all the races of the 1993 season.

Since Maserati used complex production methods for the bodywork, which contained a mixture of aluminium honeycomb and glass and carbon fibre layers, the dry weight of the car is claimed to be only 775 Kg. The attention to detail continues in the beautiful steel subframe with magnesium end plates. The 6-speed ZF transmission contains straight cut gears. The brakes are non-servo for a better feedback on the racetrack. Using the 2 litre V6 turbo engine, originally developed for the Maserati Ghibli, the car has a better power to weight ratio than a current 911 Turbo Coupé.

The car offered here was used throughout the 1992 and 1993 Trofeo season and was one of the most successful cars in the trophy. Out of the 14 races the car scored three second and three third places. The first owner, later went on to drive Le Mans seven times, with a best result of fourth overall. After the two racing seasons the car has been stored in a dry place and was since in the hands of it’s first owner before it was bought by our company. The car has been thoroughly checked and the engine has been revised using a lot of new old stock parts. This is a scarce opportunity to buy a very rare Maserati race car. The car is sold with extensive documentation and original spare parts.

The car is now offered with a EU road registration and therefore is a true race-car for the road.
