The Alfa Romeo Guiletta and Guilia Spiders represent Alfa’s trademark shape of the 1950s and 1960s. Their understated but charming lines and nimble, responsive platform have long made them an “all-time” car among Italian automotive enthusiasts. For the Giulia model, the traditional Alfa twin cam 1300cc engine was enlarged to 1600cc giving the powerplant an added smoothness and reliability that put the little convertible at the top of its class. With classic Pininfarina lines, the roadster is regarded as one of Alfa’s best.
AR379101 was completed February 15, 1964 and delivered new on March 18th to Alfa Romeo Germany of Frankfurt in Black over Red upholstery, according to Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo. The Spider later made its way to Modena, Italy and eventually settled in Boise, Idaho for the remainder of its time. Extensive accompanying ownership history and documented upkeep largely begins in April of 1982 with M. Scheffer. Prior to Scheffer, the Alfa was owned by D. Huskey from 1975, whom is believed to have acquired the 1600 from its original owner. Regular maintenance is invoiced thereafter, along with an exterior repaint and cabin upholstery commissioned in January 1984 – which the Alfa continues to display today. AR379101 traded care in August 1990 to its most recent long-term steward, L.S. Peterson, a fellow Boise resident. Peterson continued the tradition of meticulously logging mileage and filing service records, period publications and workshop manuals.
This 1600 Guilia Spider offers an exciting platform for vintage rally and touring events, or an excellent base to return back to original livery. The body appears very straight with factory “104756” Pininfarina body number stamps on the bonnet and rear tub – along with AR379101 stamped across the front firewall. While the cosmetics have matured, the Alfa appears very solid overall with a dry undercarriage and a leaves the general impression of continuous sympathetic maintenance as needed by its previous caretakers. Its engine number AR00514*59190 corresponds to a 1965 Giulia T.I. (1600cc) and was likely installed early in life. Having been recently pulled from long term storage the Alfa has been recently serviced and detailed and is running and driving with great road manners and overall tight feel. The engine is strong with good engine compression (140-150 PSI per cylinders), We recommend a thorough inspection and service prior to excessive road use and/or rallies and tours.
In addition to an impressive record dossier and Certificato di Origine from Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo, the Spider is complete with period style Italian license plates, spare assembly, jack and vast collection of manuals, catalogs and publications. For those considering the adored Alfa Spider, this versatile 1600 Giulia is a great candidate at an exceptional value for continued enjoyment and collectability â available for immediate worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston, Texas showroom.
