1935 Bugatti 57 Ventoux

Older restoration but in very good condition and superb to drive

The Type 57 finally gave Ettore Bugatti the market advantage he had been searching for since the demise of the best selling Brescia in 1926. With its race derived 3.3 dohc straight eight, constant mesh gearbox and advanced chassis it provided the basis for some of the greatest pre-war routiers, many of them factory bodied under the design direction of Jean Bugatti. The Ventoux of 1934 was undoubtedly one of the finest of these. This car, in period yellow and black, is a superb example of this. While its earlier history is currently still being investigated, from 1996 onwards it resided in Switzerland with a known Bugatti enthusiast. By this time it had been either partially restored, or sympathetically refurbished. In 2006 the car was purchased through Christies by an American owner, he in turn sold it to a major Swiss collector who has decided to offer the car here. The car is one of the first series T57s, as such the engine is directly mounted to the chassis. However, the seats, which have been retrimmed in the correct beige hide, are more typical of the later models. Be that as it may, the rest of the car is in exceptionally fine original/refurbished condition. A pre-auction examination revealed that all is as it should be and we can confirm that the car drives superbly. Offered with Swiss title and copies of bills and the bill of sale from Christies, this is a fine car and a perfect opportunity to buy one of Jean Bugattis' most magnificent coachwork designs.
